While doing groceries, have you ever thought about why organic and eco-friendly products are more expensive than regular ones? The great majority of people are passionate about environmental protection. In fact, according to recent research, a lot of people would be ready to make significant adjustments to protect the environment. While this might be advantageous, maintaining a sustainable lifestyle is not inexpensive.
Why Do We Need Organic and Eco-Friendly Products?
Eco-friendly products are not only good for the environment, but they are also good for human health. Eco-friendly, all-natural products protect people from harmful chemicals while also allowing them to avoid unsafe additions that might cause a lot of problems. In terms of mortality, age, diseases, and illnesses, using environmentally friendly goods enhances the quality of life. They protect both families and the environment. When it comes to food production, organic farming is typically seen as a significantly more sustainable option. Pesticides aren’t used, and there’s a broader variety of plants, which boosts biodiversity and improves soil quality while reducing pollution from fertilizer and pesticide run-off.
Here are some reasons why they are more expensive:
1. The cost of synthetic components is cheap.
Organic and eco-friendly products manufacturers do not utilize the same inexpensive additives, substances, flavors, or preservatives, as conventional producers. Applying fewer preservatives and additives can also reduce the life span, potentially increasing losses across the value chain. Fresher products are healthier and taste better, but bringing it to
the market has infrastructural and distribution issues, which also increase costs.
2. Curves of Demand and Supply
Organic products use extends from one person to the next and people have transformed health into a way of life. In general, demand for organic and eco-friendly products exceeds supply and is constantly increasing, resulting in substantially higher costs for organic components and final products than for those grown and processed
conventionally.
3. Transportation prices are rising.
The farm’s accessibility to common infrastructure and markets can be a problem for producers. Especially now with the increase in gasoline price, since there are fewer organic farms, the essential processing and distribution centers that these farms needs are harder to obtain and farther.
4. Certification
Getting an organic or eco-friendly label does come at a price, is not only time-consuming but also costly for many farmers and handlers. The cost of all the research needs, education, adequate organic land, healthy animals, organic seed, and specialized equipment to prove a product is made organically and sustainably is high.
5. Marketing on a Small Size
Successfully marketing a business requires a large investment of both money and effort. Smaller businesses, on the other hand, frequently undertake marketing on their own and on a shoestring budget, which needs a huge amount of innovation. Print advertisements, company websites, social media platforms, and other expenses must be paid for by small businesses, whether they have a budget or not.
Are Organic and eco-friendly products worth the price?
