The simplest way to make the world a better place is through kindness, and there’s a day dedicated to it. Every year on November 13th, people worldwide celebrate World Kindness Day. The day highlights how simple actions can bring people closer together and help create more caring communities.
For children, World Kindness Day is also an opportunity to learn about empathy, respect, and the importance of treating others with care. At Green Schools Green Future (GSGF), we aim to make every child feel included and valued by focusing on kindness and respect. You can help build a brighter future and emotional intelligence for children by supporting our GoFundMe campaign.
How Did World Kindness Day Begin?
The World Kindness Movement first introduced World Kindness Day in 1998. The organisation formed at a Tokyo conference in 1997, when Japan brought kindness organisations from multiple nations together and emphasised the need for a global kindness movement. The World Kindness Movement launched in Singapore in November 2000. Today, over 28 countries are a part of it. Various countries observe World Kindness Day, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Italy, and Australia.
Why Is World Kindness Day Important for Kids?
Childhood is a key time to learn how to build relationships, understand emotions, and get along with others. Teaching children about kindness helps them develop skills they need at home, at school, and throughout life. Here are just a few:
Developing empathy
Empathy helps children notice how others feel. For example, if a child sees a classmate who is sad, they can understand that person’s feelings and respond with care.
Build friendships
Kindness helps children build trust and make friends. Sharing, taking turns, listening, and inviting others to join games all help create a more welcoming environment for everyone at school and on the playground.
Respect and inclusion
Children will meet people with different interests, abilities, cultures, and backgrounds. Learning to treat everyone with respect means understanding that everyone deserves to feel valued.
Create a kinder school environment
Small acts of kindness can make a classroom feel safer and more welcoming. When children stand up for each other, avoid being mean, and include others in activities, it helps everyone feel like they belong.
How can families celebrate World Kindness Day?
Parents and teachers can use this day to talk about kindness and show children how to be kind every day.
Here are a few simple ways:
- Lead by example: Children learn by watching adults. Show them patience, appreciation, and respect
- Read stories about kindness: Select age-appropriate books that explore friendship, empathy, acceptance, and helping others
- Recognise kind behaviour: When a child does something kind, explain why it matters instead of only giving praise or a reward
Making Kindness a Year-Round Habit
World Kindness Day falls on 13th November, but kindness is a gift we can give every day. Whether at school, at home, with friends, or in the community, being kind is always in season. So this November, let’s come together and be human.
You can do that by donating to a cause that benefits every child without discrimination.
At Green Schools Green Future, we want to do more than offer traditional education. Our goal is to blend academic learning with hands-on learning like solar energy, water treatment, vertical farming, aquaponics, and AI literacy. We believe every kid deserves kindness.
Every donation, big or small, helps us get closer to our goal. Please support our GoFundMe campaign and join us in building a greener, smarter future for the next generation.
