When was the last time you spent some real quality time with your whole family? Our busy day-to-day lives have us constantly rushing to complete our to-do lists. We’ve also replaced family bonding time with TVs and phone-scrolling. If this sounds relatable, it’s time to plan some quality time with your loved ones. This Family Day, get your family off the couch and make some incredible memories!

Here are some fun Family Day activities:

1. Volunteering

Volunteering is a good way to give back to the community while doing something as a family. Your children will learn why it’s important to help out and make meaningful connections along the way. Options for where to volunteer include:

  • Senior care homes
  • Food banks
  • Community gardens
  • Events

Be mindful of any age restrictions for volunteer positions.

2. Art Workshops

There are plenty of arts and crafts workshops for families, such as pottery, painting, drawing, cooking and more. But what about a workshop that combines science and art? On Family Day, Action Potential Lab holds a workshop on how stuffed toys are made. The money raised from the tickets go to the Canadian Red Cross to support relief work. It’s a good way to have fun and learn at the same time!

3. Hockey Hall Of Fame

If you have kids and they love hockey, take them to the Hockey Hall Of Fame! Kids receive free admission to the five interactive zones. And, of course, they can snap a photo with the Stanley Cup!

4. Evergreen Brick Works

Find some fun in the heart of Don Valley. There are local vendors selling tasty food, a skating rink, and site tours to learn more about the history of the area.

5. TBFF Kids Film Festival

TBFF hosts the TBFF Kids Film Festival. It is designed to offer a cool space for children to learn and be creative while informing about black history and stories from the oppressed. If you are interested in watching movies at the TBFF, don’t miss the ‘The Great Green Wall’ by Jared P. Scottat. Co-presented by GSGF, ‘The Great Green Wall’ is a documentary about an ambitious vision of growing an 8000 km ‘wall’ of trees across the entirety of Africa. This movie will not only inspire adults but also kids.

Conclusion

Try these activities to spend quality time with your family and learn along the way. We hope you have a fabulous Family Day!
