Hi there! We here at Green Schools Green Future would like to express our gratitude for your ongoing support. Your donations to the Green Schools Foundation have helped our community grow and raise awareness about critical environmental issues. We aim to build a sustainable future for your children.Â
With machine learning on the rise, we know that over 40% of jobs may become obsolete by the time our students graduate. The curriculum at GSGF not only teaches students traditional subjects but also computer programming, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and quantum financial systems. But we need your continued help to make our first green school a reality. If you’re able, please consider making a donation to support us. Even $5 or $20 goes a long way. To hear more from us, subscribe to our monthly newsletter and stay updated.Â
Now let’s dive into the blog post.
Why Is Sun Safety and Skin Health Important?
As summer approaches, it’s important to protect your skin so you can stay healthy and comfortable outdoors. Sun safety is all about reducing the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can lead to sunburn, premature aging, and an increased risk of skin damage over time.
By building sun-safe habits into your daily routine, you can enjoy the outdoors while keeping your skin protected and resilient.
Understanding UV Exposure
UV exposure refers to the amount of ultraviolet radiation your skin receives from the sun. There are two main types that affect your skin: UVA rays, which contribute to aging and long-term damage, and UVB rays, which are primarily responsible for sunburn.
Both types can be harmful, even on cloudy days or in cooler temperatures. The intensity of UV radiation is often highest between late morning and mid-afternoon, so be mindful during those hours. Understanding when and how UV exposure happens helps you make smarter choices about protecting your skin.
Effective Sun Protection Practices
Practicing good sun protection means combining several good habits rather than relying on just one.
Here are some of the key ones:
- Seeking shade under trees, umbrellas, or in buildings during peak sunlight hoursÂ
- Wearing protective clothing such as wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and lightweight long-sleeved clothing
- Applying sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapplying it every couple of hours when outdoors
This way, you can reduce the risk of skin damage while still enjoying outdoor activities.
Skin Care and Monitoring
Caring for your skin in warmer weather doesn’t stop at protection. It also involves paying attention to changes over time. Regularly check your skin for new or unusual spots, changes in moles, or abrasions that don’t heal properly so you can catch potential concerns early. Keep your skin hydrated by using moisturizers and drinking plenty of water to support its natural barrier and glow.
If you notice anything unusual, consulting a healthcare professional is an important step. With consistent care and awareness, you can maintain healthy skin throughout the summer and beyond.
One product we suggest is Sun Love – Everyday Sheer Sunscreen from our affiliate, Annmarie. This natural sunscreen is long lasting and free of harmful chemicals.
Sun Safety & Our Mission
We understand that skin and sun safety is essential in protecting our students and will ensure that they are informed on the good habits that can keep them protected during the summer.
At GSGF, we will ensure our students know how aim to combine green education and healthy living habits into our curriculum. Not only will they learn about plants and grow their own in the school farm, but they will also learn about healthy meal preparation. As a part of their schooling, they will help feed the school community with the produce they’ve grown. With the guidance of professionals in the sustainability, farming, and culinary fields, our students will gain lifelong habits and skills for their health and that of the planet.
By combining education with real-world environmental action, Green Schools Green Future is planting the ideas, skills, and values needed for a sustainable future. Our students are empowered to make a meaningful impact in their communities. With your support, we can continue to grow this vision and nurture the next generation of changemakers.
