For families with young kids, gardening is a great habit to pass on. Having your kids take part in planting and managing the garden throughout the season is a great way to spark their interest and get them to spend time outside instead of watching TV all day.

However, what if you don’t have the space and resources for an outdoor garden?

Unlike what you may think, you don’t need to have a lot of space to create a garden. Container gardening is when you grow plants in containers such as large pots rather than in the ground. It’s also a good choice for first-time gardeners.

Here are some key benefits of this gardening method:

1. Space efficient & mobile

This is a great way to garden when you have a small yard or just a balcony. Unlike gardens in the ground, container gardening takes up much less space. The pots are also more mobile, as you can move and arrange them any number of times.

2. Less time-consuming

Picking/containing weeds, looking out for pests and diseases, and other protective measures are key concerns for regular gardening. This is not the case for container gardening, making it a good option for those who work busy jobs, parents, students, and others with limited time.

3. Save water

Container gardening inside is also a great way to save on water. Regular outdoor gardens require a lot of watering, much more than what you can depend on the rain for. By planting in containers, you can use less water.

4. Year-round gardening

If you garden in containers indoors, you don’t need to worry about cold temperatures and weather hazards. Gardening is a great way to brighten your space and mood in the cold winter months. You’ll be able to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables during any season.

Easy, Sustainable Gardening

Whether you are new to gardening or have been gardening for years, consider container gardening this summer.

It is a great alternative to the traditional outdoor gardening if you have time or space constraints, while still allowing you to enjoy the fruits of your labor!

At Green Schools Green Future, our goal is to educate the future generations on green solutions. We aim to teach children to grow sustainable community gardens for their health and that of our planet.
