I still remember a small moment from when I was about eight or nine years old. I was on the school bus, and a girl a few years older turned to my friend and said, \u201cDon\u2019t throw that wrapper on the floor. Just keep it in your bag and throw it in the bin when you get home.\u201d<\/i><\/p>

At the time, it seemed like such a simple thing. Years later, I still catch myself doing exactly that\u2014slipping a wrapper into my bag until I find a bin. It\u2019s almost second nature now. Funny how the smallest lessons stick with us.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

And yet, here\u2019s what puzzles me: if we all know such sensible things, how do we still find ourselves surrounded by news of floods, wildfires, and landslides every other week mostly driven by human actions? It almost feels like they\u2019ve become seasonal headlines. Clearly, knowing isn\u2019t always the same as understanding\u2014or acting.<\/span><\/p>

That\u2019s where the idea of <\/span>environmental literacy<\/b> comes in.<\/span><\/p>

So, what exactly is environmental literacy?<\/b><\/h3>

Most of us think of literacy as the ability to read and write. But what about being able to \u201cread\u201d the world around us? Environmental literacy isn\u2019t about memorizing facts about polar bears or greenhouse gases. It\u2019s about noticing the signals our planet is giving us, understanding the hidden costs of our daily choices, and making sense of the stories behind the products we use.<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s a skill that turns awareness into action.<\/span><\/p>
