Lately, I\u2019ve been thinking more about how we approach the back-to-school season. It’s not just about school supplies but also our values that mirror how we want to move through the world. This could mean thinking about the environmental footprint of all those shiny new pens and notebooks.<\/p>

Here\u2019s what I\u2019ve learned (and what I wish I\u2019d known sooner): being eco-friendly doesn\u2019t mean being perfect and it definitely doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t have nice things. It just means making smarter and often simpler choices.<\/p>

1. Use What You Already Have First<\/strong><\/h2>

Start by dumping out your \u201cjunk drawer,\u201d the one with paper clips, half-used notebooks, old erasers, and mystery markers. I know you\u2019ll find at least three items you can easily reuse. Last year\u2019s barely-touched sketchbook? Still good. That \u201clost\u201d pair of scissors? Still have it. Ruler? Found it in the back.<\/p>

Kids do not always need to feel prepared; they just want to feel ready. So you can make this task fun and turn it into a mini arts-and-crafts project to personalize their old supplies. They can decorate old recycled notebook covers with magazine cutouts.<\/p>

2. Look for Recycled or Refillable Options for Supplies<\/strong><\/h2>
