As 5G is gaining traction, advocacy groups and parents are pushing back against school districts that are working with internet providers to install cell towers on school grounds. They point to the possible health risks students may face with the towers so close by.<\/p>

Financial Benefits or Student Safety?<\/strong><\/h2>

Schools across the US have partnered with Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and others to install cell towers. They will receive financial compensation in return. Representatives and other supporters emphasize the benefits of faster and more effective internet connection for the communities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

On the other hand, critics are advocating for the government to ban cell towers from school grounds, citing scientific studies.\u00a0<\/p>

What the Research Suggests: Health Risks<\/strong><\/h2>

Several studies, including one from the Physicians for Safe Technology<\/a> have found a possible link between radiofrequency (RF) exposure and a number of health risks. These include developmental delays, heightened risk of diabetes, memory and attention problems, and heightened risk of cancer. To avoid these risks, health experts recommend keeping cell towers at least 1,640ft away from schools.<\/p>
