Every year, the second Sunday of May honours motherhood and the sacrifices every mother has made for their children. In the US, Mother’s Day became an official date on the calendar in 1914<\/a> through Anna Jarvis’ efforts. Traditionally, we give flowers, cards, and other gifts to our mothers. However, commercialization has shifted the holiday’s values from simply spending time to putting a price tag on love. This development led Jarvis to try to abolish her own holiday.<\/p>

Another mother we may forget to think about is mother nature.\u00a0 Being mindful of how we take care of and what we take from the earth can go a long way.<\/p>

7 Ways to Honour Mothers & Mother Nature<\/strong><\/h2>

As a mother myself, a perfect day would be one where I can relax and have fun with my family with the hopes that my kids will go to bed at time. Here are some simple ways have an eco-friendly Mother’s Day:<\/p>

1.<\/strong> Consider gifts with as little paper\/art craft packaging as possible<\/p>

2.<\/strong> Support local businesses and eco-friendly companies by buying gifts from them<\/p>

3.<\/strong> Run a nice bath with essential oils or Epsom salts for your mother to relax in<\/p>

4.<\/strong> Cook her a nice meal or spend quality time in the kitchen by cooking together<\/p>

5.<\/strong> Make your own gifts and\/or cards with recycled paper<\/p>

6.<\/strong> Tell her you love her and appreciate everything she\u2019s done for you.<\/p>

7.<\/strong> The day after, sort the garbage and compost organic matter<\/p>

The spirit of Mother’s Day is remembering and appreciating all that mothers do for their children, not buying the most expensive gifts. It\u2019s easy to get caught up in finding the perfect gift and card from a store when mothers just want to spend time talking and doing fun activities with us. Let us give all the mothers out there and Mother Earth our support, care, respect, and appreciation. By making the occasion eco-friendly, we can work towards a better future for everyone and a healthy planet.<\/p>
